Well over 2 years ago, I started a Mystery Quilt Block of the Month. I did excellent until the next to the last set of blocks. I had to make 12 of the same block, and each block had 4 of these squares with triangles on the corners. (picture my scrunched up face here)
I did manage to get one block of the twelve completed (I wanted to see what it looked like). I was a little overwhelmed at the complexity, but what really tweaked my nose, was those squares with the triangle corners. Erggg. Ok. Enough. The quilt got bagged up and put out of sight, because I wanted it out of mind.
So the Mystery Quilt was going to remain a mystery, namely because I didn't want to make all those squares with the triangle thingies (it called for a total of 48 for these 12 blocks).
Well, have you ever had one of those "duh" moments. I have them all the time, but I had a really big one today.
Typically, to make those square triangle thingies (I'm sorry I really don't know what they're called officially), you would draw a diagonal line on the smaller square, and sew along that line and join the large square to the small square, then press and open it up. You had to do this on two sides of the larger square.
Here's a little secret about me: I hate drawing lines. Ergo, the reluctance in working on this quilt.
Well, we have a Baby Lock Destiny in the store and after our store manager, Deb, came back from a full week of Destiny training in St. Louis, she demonstrated the "laser" light to me. She then showed me how to use that laser light to make those squares with the triangles. No line drawing involved! Sweet feature, I thought at the time.

Now Deb showed this to me several weeks ago, but today was the "duh" moment! (I might be a little slow, but my brain eventually catches up). I have a UFO that needs that technique!
Needless to say, I pulled out that Mystery Quilt and got going. I made 48 total, nice and neat little squares with the triangle things. (are these called modified flying geese?)

All because of this great "laser" light feature on the Baby Lock Destiny.

So if you ever wonder if getting a new machine just might result in you being more productive, or looking at an old UFO with sights on finishing it, just ask me. The queen of the "duh" moments.
Here's a block of the twelve, of the next to the last block, in my 2-year-in-the-making Mystery Quilt!

Stayed tuned to see the finished quilt. Because this old UFO is well on its way to being completed. Thank you, Baby Lock for the Destiny!
I love toys!
