A creative mind gathers no dust

We thought it might be fun to see what it might be like to venture out of the quilting world for an evening. Randy did the skull mug thing.

I made a dish that I think I'll use on the front counter for our new chocolate holder.

Pushing yourself into being creative is not the easiest thing to do.  Sometimes you're afraid what you created won't look good, or it won't be a nice as someone else's. Or you feel you don't "have that kind of talent".  But what's important, through all this, is that you're trying something new to stimulate your mind.

Does it matter if you tried oil painting, and you really stink at it?  Or if you tried knitting and you just couldn't get the hang of it. Or you tried to quilt, but got frustrated?

My BIG word to you is:  SO?  ...You TRIED it.  You pushed your mind through the dust bunnies that are in there, and you did it. That in itself should bring a smile to your face.  So what if quilting is not for you, or so what if oil painting isn't your 'thing'! Seriously, so what!

Life is too long, and also too short not to be creating with your mind. When you push it creatively, eventually you will find something that lights your path (and becomes your passion).

Randy and I had a nice Friday evening date night at Hobby Hut Ceramics, here in Cañon City. I love his skull... I think he has a real talent.

I have my eyes set on a ceramic Christmas tree I've always wanted to do. And yes, I'm already picturing the miniature quilt that will become the Christmas tree's skirt.

Don't let your mind gather dust... be creative!

Lots of fabric and thread, where we went...

Randy and I and some of our friends got the chance to head to the International Balloon Festival at Albuquergue this past weekend.

Simply stated, it was amazing, cool, wow, and a whole lot more. We saw literally 100's of balloons, of all shapes and sizes.  And we were right there in the midst of them as they were filling up, heating up, and going up.

But one thing kept crossing my mind:  "There's a whole lot of fabric and thread on this 70 acres of hot air balloons."

We rounded out the day by visiting 3 different quilt shops in the Albuquergue area. It was truly a very great day!

I just love to play

The new Baby Lock top of the line sewing/embroidery machine rolled through our front door this week, The Destiny.

We got to play around with her at Baby Lock Tech Convention in August.  Randy and I both agree the most amazing thing about her is the fact that she can scan a picture, then convert it to a digitize drawing, then convert it to embroidery.  I can only imagine the possibilities. 

How amazing would it be to take those infamous refrigerator drawings and turn them all into a wonderful memory quilt?  Or turn a hand-written letter into stitches.

The Destiny's abilities takes creating to a new level with precise positioning, laser beam guidance, and over 770 deocrative stitches (do not roll your eyes and say you'd never use that many stitches... because you can and you will once you're prompted to think a little more outside the box).

We're having a small demo on Friday, Oct. 3rd at 5:30pm.  There are still a few seats available and Randy and I will love to show some of what we've learned on this remarkable machine. Call 285-8088.
