The Royal Gorge Train does not run from January to March. I realized how much I miss hearing the train pull out - several times a day - so I found this embroidery design and stitched it out. (sewing always makes things better, don't you think?)

Federal Blues - Delicate Reds
Moda's Grant Park line of fabrics came in last week. It is so pretty and prestigous. It would bode well in either traditional or modern quilt patterns. This design is from Karla Alexander's book, New Cuts for New Quilts. (pieced together by Jackie).

And thus the Journey begins...
The Hoopsister's Jacobean Journey Embroidery Block of the Month Session #1 was Saturday. Braving the cold and the snow, the ladies began on their first block. First, it felt good to have the classroom busy again after the Christmas break. Second, it was music to the ear to hear those embroidery machines humming away.
Session #2 is Tuesday and I can't wait to see how everyone's colors are going to come together. This is just too much fun!!!

First Stitches Quilt Shop & Sewing Store is sponsoring The Royal Gorge Winter Quilting Retreat at the Valley Ranch, located 8 miles west of Cañon City, Colorado on March 6th – March 9th. This is a much anticipated event, by request, so sign up early to reserve your spot!
The Details
The retreat will take place in a spacious 5,000 sq. ft., 3-level lodge, where you can relax with old friends while making new ones. The main level – where the sewing tables will be set up – boasts of large picture windows over looking the rolling hills and piñion pines with beautiful scenic views of the Sangre de Christo mountains.
The formal dining area will be used as a sewing area that will seat eight comfortably. The lower level houses an un-stocked mini bar and TV where you can take a break from sewing. There are 6 bathrooms throughout.

Costs for the 4-Day, 3-Night Retreat
There are 3 ea. King Size Master Suites, with private baths with jacuzzi tubs. Each room will comfortably accomodate 2 people. The price for the King Size Master Suite is $499.
There are 3 Queen Size rooms, accomodating 2 people each, with shared bathrooms. The price for the Queen Size accomodations is $449.
The loft has 2 sleeper sofas in a semi-open area with shared bathrooms. The cost for a sleeper sofa (which could sleep 2) is $399.
Included in the price:
- Breakfast on Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings
- Lunch on Friday and Saturday
- Presentation of cheese, crackers, chocolates and h'ordeurves Thursday evening, and each afternoon
- Drinking water, soda and Iced Tea
You are welcomed to bring your favorite wine and other beverages of your choice, along with any additional food items. There is plenty of room in the refrigerator and the wet bar downstairs.
You will have your own choice of dinner, either visiting one of Cañon City's fine eating establishments, or bring fixings for cooking at the Ranch.
